"Boom"

In Boom, the inner workings of a boombox are revealed to show a complex ecosystem
of dancers, war-mongers and mechanical creatures. But what happens when the lines
between reality and fantasy - organic and mechanical begin to blur? Music by the
Minneapolis band Estate.

"Tesla and the Bellboy"
Director: Timothy Ziegler

Nikola Tesla, a renowned (and perpetually broke) inventor, is confronted in his hotel
apartment by a timid bellboy collecting payment for the bill. This comic short
film is based on the legend that Tesla used a deathray to ward off payments for his
residence at the Hotel New Yorker. Ziegler is from Edgerton, WI and is now living in
New York. His film "Pinmonkey" won Best Wisconsin Student Narrative Short Film at
the 2007 Wisconsin Film Festival.

"Keeping the Lights On"

In Vernon County, Wis., the Dairyland Power Cooperative needed a place to dump the
ash scrubbed out of their coal processing plant. Their analysts calculated that the
best location for the landfill was the acres-wide indentation in the hills several
miles down the road, home to several century-old family farms. This is the story of
the dilemma faced by the providers of electrical power, the Wisconsin farmers who
fought to save their land, and the question of coal now facing our state.

to be a better way to get things done. A tip of the hat to Rube Goldberg mechanical
systems.

"Microcosm"
Director: Erik Cieslewicz

"Microcosm" follows the story of four high school graduates the day before they
leave for college. Mikel (played by Luke Cieslewicz) wants to make their final
high school party a success as a way to impress long-time crush Ireland (Arwen
Fonzen), so he enlists the help of his friends Zaki (Joel Heimerman) and Ronnie
(Liz Leighton).

"Willow"

Willow combines 8mm film, 16mm film, and digital video with the techniques of hand
painting, optical printing, and rotoscope. Rather than guiding the viewer through a
linear storyline, it evokes concepts of memory, past and present, and life and death
told through a magical dream-world of animals.

"Brothers"

In the film, three brothers face the difficult decision of whether or not to sell their
farm and thereby sacrifice generations of family history for a considerable payout or
to continue struggling for survival in the face of modern-day development. To make
matters more complicated, each brother has his own set of problems to overcome.
Ultimately, the brothers must come together to decide if they want to preserve the past
or look to the future. The director's "Tractor For Sale" was Audience Choice in the
2006 CWFilmfest.

"When Water Comes to Life"

 All you need to know is you are born of water sings Craig Minowa, frontman of
Minnesota indie-pop rockers Cloud Cult; we are made of water. In this fan-
interpreted music video, the mysteries of life, the ocean and the afterlife are
poetically fused as one.

Director and animator Jon Thompson hails from Marathon, WI and currently lives in
Minneapolis where he is an Interactive Director for a small design agency.
